if i could take all the things
i've seen and heard and said, and all the things
i've ever learned, and all the thingsi've ever known
and wrap them up in a neat little box,
i'd wrap that box in the prettiest paper i could find,
and i'd tie the best bow i knew how.
i'd send that little box of life to the acorn
with a note that said:
do not open until you are a tree.
and that's the twist part.
because by the time the acorn becomes a tree
she will have already acquired all the things in the box.
so instead of opening the box
the tree will just laugh
and make some breakfast
and keep tying the bow on the box for the acorn.
she is forever tying bows.
and smiling all the while.
